Sts. Sahag & Mesrob Church School
Attendance Guidelines
Our purpose in creating these guidelines is to achieve the mission of our Church School and to fulfill our obligation to the children of our parish.
We are expecting that our students be prompt (arriving at or before 10:00 a.m.) each and every Sunday. Our teachers cannot start a lesson over each time a student enters the classroom late; nor can they wait to begin their lessons. This is unfair to both the students and the teachers, who have voluntarily given of their time to educate our children.
Therefore, this year our attendance policy will be as follows:
Teachers will keep an attendance record that will be submitted to the Superintendent of Religious Education on a monthly basis.
Students who arrive at 10am and no later than 10:05 a.m. will receive a ticket from the Superintendent of Religious Education. This will then be placed into a box and each month we will draw three tickets, and a prize will be awarded to those three individuals during assembly on the last Sunday of each month. The box will be emptied after each drawing, and we still start anew at the beginning of each subsequent month.
Tardiness and early dismissals will be recorded if a student has 4 recorded tardies or early dismissals, this will count as one absence.
Please inform your child’s teacher when they are absent due to illness. In this case, it will count as an excused absence.
Students who are participating in Junior Choir or serving as Acolytes are not considered absent from school.
It is not considered an absence if a student attends church at another parish simply provide a note or email informing the child’s teacher.
Any Sunday that Church School is cancelled (i.e. snow) will not be counted as an absence.
We will continue to award students for their attendance record at the end of the school year. Students who have missed only 3 Sundays throughout the year will receive an attendance award on the last day of school.
We have adopted this policy in order to help us do the absolute best for your children. We look forward to a wonderful year!
