Church School Curriculum

grade nine

Young people of this age are searching to discover themselves and to relate creatively to an expanding world and to their own growing faith. Central to their search is the question, "Who am I?" which is implicit in the theme of We Believe Grade Nine.

Areas of interest at this age level covered in the eight curriculum units include: God and our relationship to Him; a Christian understanding of oneself as a free and responsible person; what the Church is and does; the meaning of commitment which leads to discipleship, meaningful participation in the life and ministries of the Church; achieving Christian maturity; and accepting Christian responsibility.

Underneath the variety of outward teenage personality is a desire to discover the meaning of life at a deeper level. Christian education-with the help of this text-can appeal to young people's depth of yearning for God, their capacity for heroic courage, and their response to the call for sacrifice.

Theme: We are made in God's image, free to choose, to grow, to make wrong choices, to sin, to turn from God and others; our faith helps us be reconciled.
