12th Annual Children's Talent Show
The 12th Annual Talent Show, sponsored by the Cultural Committee, played to a full house on Saturday evening, June 10th in our Church’s Egavian Cultural Center.
Maestro Konstantin Petrossian, Director of the Cultural Committee, initiated the Talent Show twelve years ago to showcase our talented Armenian youth of the Rhode Island community.
Since its inception more than a decade ago, Irene Eranosian has tirelessly chaired the Talent Show. Through the years she has noticed an increase in the participants and the improvement in the quality of their performances. She paid tribute to the many dedicated teachers of the Arts Education Program, formed eight years ago, under the direction of Janna Guegamian. The teachers offer their time and services at a nominal fee for the Saturday program enabling many children to participate.
Chairperson Irene Eranosian opened the program welcoming the guests and invited Linda Minassian, Parish Council Chairperson, who brought greetings from the Parish Council. She commended the Cultural Committee for providing the opportunity for the youth of Rhode Island to exhibit their individual talents.
The show started with the award winning Jr. Choir of our church, directed by Maestro Petrossian.
The audience was treated to a variety of piano selections, violin, an enthusiastic guitar group, clarinet, vocals, show tunes, and dance by the multi-talented youth.
The first half of the program ended with a Viennese Waltz by the Garni Ballroom Dance Group under the direction of choreographer Narine Olemme.
During intermission, the audience was able to browse the elaborate display of artwork by the students of the Arts Education Program. Teacher Ann Ovanesyan has nurtured their talent in mixed media including sculpture, drawing, oils and pastels.
The second half of the program opened with the Nazeli Dance Group performing “Sardarabad” under the guidance of Artistic Director and Choreographer Gayanne Avagyan. In true Armenian style, the audience joined in the traditional rhythmic clapping. The remainder of the program saw more vocals, guitar, piano, clarinet, dance and kanon.
At the end of the Talent Show, guest clergy Rev. Fr. Gomidas Baghsarian, who had attended the Children’s Talent Shows in previous years, expressed how proud and impressed he was with the talent of our Armenian Rhode Island youth.
The evening ended with a refreshment table prepared by the Cultural Committee members.
