Charles Yaghoobian, Jr., born December 18, 1943 in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, was a member of Sts. Sahag and Mesrob Armenian Church. He was the son of the late Charles and Grace Yaghoobian and the brother of Nathalie Yaghoobian and Zita Butler. Charles was a graduate of the University of Rhode Island and received a master’s degree in physical education from Bridgeport University.

Second Lieutenant Charles Yaghoobian Jr. was a member of the Marine Corps Reserve and served in Quang Tri, South Vietnam. On October 14, 1967, four days into his tour of duty, Charles died as a victim of enemy artillery fire.

Charles’ death was a loss not only to his family and friends, but to our Church and community. To honor his memory, we have been awarding the Charles Yaghoobian athletic and scholarship awards since 1968.
