Dear Friends,
It’s my great pleasure to greet you all with the good - beyond description - news of the resurrection from the dead of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In the spirit of this spring season of rebirth and renewal, we the faithful of the Holy Church of Armenia commemorate Holy Week and Easter.
The feast of our Lord’s resurrection contains unique power for unprecedented spiritual growth as we join our brothers and sisters throughout the world in singing the Easter sharagan — hymns and greeting one another with the words — KREESDOS HARYAV EE MERELOTS!
At a time when we as individuals, as people in community, and the world at large are so much in need of an increase in love, forgiveness and unity, we embrace the sacred message of the resurrection - Christ’s triumph over death! It is no small thing that our holy Christian faith is anchored upon the truth of Jesus’ death and resurrection. This message is of particular consolation to those who mourn the death of loved ones.
During the various services of Holy Week we remember through scripture, prayer and song the most significant saving acts of our Lord’s last week – from His triumphant entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday through His Last Supper, passion, death, burial and resurrection. From the bottom of my heart I invite you to join me in our Holy Week journey.
May the great joy of our Lord’s empty tomb empower us as we live out our Christian lives. Kreesdos haryav ee merelots — Christ is risen from the dead! Orhnyal eh haroutyoonun Kreesdosee — Blessed is the resurrection of Christ!
