Lesson XIV – The Second Article of the Creed: Christ God’s Son, Prophesies of the Messiah

1. What is the second article of the Creed?

“(We believe in) one Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, begotten of God the Father, only begotten, that is of the substance of the Father. God from God, light from light, true God from true God, begotten and not made; of the same nature of the Father, by whom all things came into being in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible.”

2. What does this mean?

That Jesus Christ is the Only-begotten Son of God and is perfect God. Consequently, in order to have heavenly (eternal) life we must believe the doctrine taught by Him and fulfill His commandments.

3. Does the Holy Bible speak of Christ as God?

Yes, the Holy Scriptures call Christ “God.” The Apostle Paul says, “Christ came, who is over all God blessed for ever.” (Romans 9:5) and St. John calls Christ “God the Word.” (John 1:1)

4. Is Christ eternal, as God?

Yes, David refers to the Christ, “You are the same (i.e. unchangeable) and your days shall have no end.” (Psalms 102:27). Christ himself said, “Before Abraham was, I am.” (John 8:58). John says, “In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. (John 1:1)

5. Is Christ omnipresent as God?

Yes, the Savior himself said, “Where two or three are gathered together in my name there am I in the midst of them.” Also, “I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.” (Matthew 18:20, Matthew 28:18-20).

6. Is Christ omniscient as God?

Yes, as St. Peter the Apostle confesses, “Lord, you know all things.” (John 21:17, 16:30)
